I LOVE going shopping on Black Friday. I love the sparkly ads proclaiming the lowest price of the season, the jam-packed stores and the mobs of people. I love the traffic and the chaos and the crazy look holiday shoppers get in their eyes. There is nothing like Black Friday to bring out the insanely awesome. It’s all so wonderful!
What? You don’t agree? You would rather stay home watch a movie after chowing on turkey than be out all night standing in line at your favorite big box store? You plan on sleeping in instead of hauling your butt out of bed at 4am to go and fight with strangers over $5 sweaters? Well, to each his own.
If you would rather pluck out your leg hair with tweezers than head to the mall this weekend, don’t worry, we have you covered! There are plenty of ways to get great deals without fighting the cheapskates at the big box stores!
Shop online. Many of the stores with the sparkly ads are offering the same exact deals online all weekend. Some are even offering online only door busters. If you don’t believe me, just check your favorite ads. Mine has big letters say “Shop online all weekend!” Hollar! You can keep your sanity, stay home in your PJ’s and STILL save money. Aren’t you a smart one!
Check for coupons. Sites like Retail me Not offer a directory of online coupons and discounts. Just search for the store you are shopping, and like magic it will give you codes for free shipping or other discounts. Check your email while you are at it. Stores are busy jamming your inbox with discount codes and awesome deals. Before you hit the checkout button type in as many coupon codes as possible.
Shop local and/or Etsy. Not only can you get great deals, but your gifts will be personal and one of a kind. Your gift recipients will really feel the love when you give them something awesome that is made by hand. Etsy stuff is so much cooler than a gift card!
Shop American, Organic, and Earth Friendly. If you feel passionately about something January through November, there is no reason to compromise yourself by buying Christmas gifts you don’t really love or believe in. It’s better to support the companies you love than give the cheapest gifts
Don’t Shop at all. People love you for who you are, not what you buy them. Save tons of money this year by giving hand written letters or gifts you make yourself from things you already have. Pinterest is full of fabulous ideas for presents that don’t cost anything. Be smart with your money and spend it on what (or who) matters most. Instead of giving random junk that you pick off an end cap to everyone do something thoughtful instead.
And last but not least…
