It’s no secret I have a shallow gag reflex. As in, it doesn’t take much for me to gag.
I think it’s a testament of my love that, as a mother, I walk into messes that would give my childless self nightmares. You name it, I’ve touched it.
But the gross-out factor, the gag reflex, is still shallow.
Which means, when my children vomit, I vomit. When their diapers explode and cover me, the changing table and every article of furniture in a 2.5 mile radius, I dry heave.
This makes potty training one of the worst and most dreaded stages of my mothering life.
When we decided to start potty training our son, I began the Great Potty Chair Search. Visions of dumping the contents of a potty chair combined with the realization of the messes a little boy could make made me shudder and heave. I searched for a chair that would have the fewest movable parts and the smallest number of cracks.
I found it in the Baby Bjorn Potty Chair and Little Potty Chair.
The Potty Chair features an easy-to-clean removable “potty” and an ergonomically designed seat. It’s lightweight enough that they can move it and small enough that I didn’t feel as though the entire bathroom was being taken over by potty training. The potty was reversible for boy or girl use. If you’re the mother of girls, you can ignore this and live in blissful ignorance. If you’re the mother of boys, let’s just say that it shielded and contained better than I expected.
The Little Potty Chair, now that is sheer genius. Since it is all one piece, it’s easy to clean, easy to rinse and easy to tote. We put the seat, a large bottle of tap water, a package of wipes and a handful of plastic shopping bags into a reusable tote, tossed it into the trunk of the car and are good to go. No matter were we were – camping, at the beach, at grandparents’, at the fair, on the road – we had a potty at the ready.
As I embark on another round of potty training – this time with my daughter – I can’t help but be happy that we invested in the Bjorn Potty Chairs. They were – and still are – one of the best toddler investments we’ve made.
Disclaimer: I did not receive any compensation for this review. If, however, Baby Bjorn is reading and would like to send me the toilet trainer or, even better, take care of potty training my daughter, I’d be more than happy to accept.

We use the two in one bjorn seat and love it. Although the pee guard helped our daughter. Vaginas are hard to aim, too.
We have/love the Baby Bjorn Potty Chair. We used it with our daughter and will be saving it for our son as well, it still looks brand new. An added bonus was it was easy to keep in the trunk of the car for EMERGENCIES!!
We LOVE the bjorn potties. We started with the chair and then graduated to the bjorn potty seat that fits over the toilet. Both are awesome.
Much like Alex, we use the splash guard with Work Girl, because she’s actually a messier pee-er than my Small Boy.
I hate chamber pot style pottying, but even I have to say, the Baby Bjorn doesn’t suck.
We totally have the little bjorn potty chair. It’s been great. And even greater now that I’ve convinced Diego it’s for babies and he’s now going exclusively on the full size potty. I’m SO over scooping poop out of potty chairs. No matter how wonderful they are designed. I’m just done. Whew!
